Cracka Review

Sometimes Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon can be a hard sell with the success of the local Shiraz blinding many to its often high quality. This is a mouth-filling style, opulent and full-bodied with sweet and luscious fruit finishing with some attractive tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon with a kick.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Inky red in colour with purple hues.

Nose: Lifted notes of blackcurrants, tobacco leaf and spicy French oak characters blend effortlessly on the nose.

Palate: A sweet, textured palate, combining blackcurrants, classic cigar box notes and licorice further enhanced by the fine grained tannins and supportive cedary oak.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
The Clare Valley doesn't always come up with the right answers with cabernet sauvignon, but in this vintage, did so in spades. The wine is full-bodied, with a classic array of black fruits and savoury/earthy tannins to provide texture and structure, the oak handling has also been spot on.

A reflection of the very good SA vintage, even at this level, soft blackcurrant fruit with nicely balanced tannins.

It seems rather amusing that the American market goes nuts for this wine because it sounds so tough and manly, a fact that we leant from the sensitive and educated Kilikanoon CEO Nathan Waks, prior to his performance of an incredible piece of classical music on his cello. Gangster rappers must be drinking this deliriously delicious wine without knowing just how many light years they are away from Nathan himself. Like the man, this is a highly polished wine with mint leaf notes accenting its fine red berry flavours.

Light- to medium-bodied; a well-balanced wine with varietal expression but little or no complexity.

James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
A well-made, medium-bodied mix of dark chocolate, ripe blackcurrant and mulberry fruit; ripe tannins, soft oak.
