Koonowla Clare Valley Riesling

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

We love a touch of terroir in the Cracka office and Riesling is just the wine you need if you want to taste of where it came from. Terroir might be an archaic and elusive term but all it literally translates to is the factors in the vineyard that produced the fruit: the soil, the elevation, the climate, you get the picture? One sniff of this Riesling and it reveals a Clare Valley signature of lime, floral notes and spice before a zesty, citrus palate with a piercing acid finish. A good wine for white fish, shellfish or even Asian dishes.

Winemaker's Notes

The colour is pale straw with a green tinge. Floral lime lemon and spice aromas precede a palate with mouth filling citrus flavours and a zesty long acid finish.

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Light, bright green-quartz; the floral bouquet is fresh and enlivened by a touch of spice, but it is the palate that takes the wine onto the top level, with penetrating purity and length to its citrus and green apple flavour, the finish crisp and dry.

Light straw-green; an unusual spice and apple blossom bouquet followed by a tight, stony/slatey palate, memories of the spice still apparent. Needs time, but will flourish.

Nick Stock (2009 Vintage) says
An honest expression of straight-shooting Clare Valley riesling that serves up a very direct lime juice experience on both the nose and the palate. Good balance and linear appeal. I like the style - approachable and authentic.

Light, bright straw-green; lime, spice and sundry citrus notes drive both bouquet and palate; plenty on offer now, but will benefit from further time in bottle.

South Clare richness with lots of clove-like spice in a big fruit profile.

Strong green-straw colour; the bouquet is stacked with ripe spice and citrus aromas, and the depth and power of the palate comes as no surprise. Great early-drinking style.

Good intensity, with plenty of minerals, floral touches and good flavour; just a little bitter on the finish.

An abundance of flavour and depth; ripe lime and citrus aromas and flavours, almost verging on tropical; lingering finish. Trophy Best Current Vintage Riesling Clare Valley Wine Show '06.

Glowing green-straw; a clean bouquet, then a powerful, slightly introspective style, with a firm, dry finish.
