WINESTATE (2010 Vintage) says
Nice level of sweetness from the stonefruit-like aromas leading to a long, elegant and drying tannic palate with an excellent balance of sweet varietal fruit and drying oak.

WINESTATE (2009 Vintage) says
Nice primary fruit with shades of plums, prunes and lavender and balanced with toasty oak and good tannin structure.

WINESTATE (2008 Vintage) says
Solid wine with good weight and presence of varietal characters. Intense but elegant mulberry and blackcurrant on the nose with oak undertones. Similar characters on palate.

The alcohol levels on the La Curio reds are too high, but boy does this wine do its damnedest to pull it off. Lipsmacking flavours of dark cherry, tar, cedarwood and bracken-like blackberry. Fruit and wood and spice. It's like a grand perfume - in your mouth. It would be delish with Spanish meats.

WINESTATE (2007 Vintage) says
Big, ripe charry aromas and solid sour cherry flavours with and astringent finish. 1-2

When wine matures in oak barrels a flavour is imparted to the wine: if you hang around in a smoky room then you come out smelling of smoke; likewise, if wine hangs around in new oak it comes out smelling of it. Some oaks smell (and taste) better than others. One winemaker described the oak in which this wine is matured as 'catnip oak'. We like it! Being such sophisticated chaps, we're not supposed to go for this kind of thing - but we love it. There's a lot of tannin and a lot of oak - it smells and tastes of sweet nougat, vanilla ice-cream and coconut - we couldn't stop smelling it! There's rich plummy flavour, too, and it has been studded with chocolatey flavours. Big, gutsy, sweet and smooth.
