La Purisima Trapio Monastrell
Monastell, mourvedre, mataro - it's all the same grape, and this one is a bold style sourced from 50 to 70-year-old vines. Red berries, plums and blue fruits decorate the nose, with flutters of mocha, star anise, earthy spices and dried herbs. The palate is fuller-bodied and generously oaked, with sweet cherry and plum flavours, licks of coffee from the oak, surprisingly smooth and fine tannins, and some juiciness to the decent finish. Great with beef short ribs straight off the BBQ.
Figs, adobe, woody dark spices and a touch of honey-molasses in a nose that’s high, wide and open-smelling. Tannins and acid themselves are dry, savoury, and ... succulent! Luxury material at pedestrian prices.
