Lamont's Winery Black Monster Malbec

Cracka Review

The Black Monster is a small production, special occasion wine, made in exceptional vintages. Blend: 100% Malbec. Black, deep burgundy / blood red colour. The bouquet an inky extract enhanced by plum leather and integrated quality oak. The palate is ripe, brooding briary black fruit with generous warmth and fine tannins.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Densely saturated purple colour; a black monster indeed, created from Donnybrook malbec that has spent 18 months in new and 1-year-old French oak barriques; blackberry essence, dark chocolate and licorice all contest in the mouth without tannins getting in the way.

Just a baby! Lovely crimson colour with rich and vibrant inky varietal fruit characters, and a 'thick' palate.

Totally misleading name. Because I approached expecting a brute and got some a little less daunting and with a lot more style. Made from Donnybrook malbec and given extended time in oak. It comes out as a seamless smooth and well rounded wine with a tight core of tannins and oak. Probably best in a few years.

A dense dark and chewy wine, loaded with sweet blue and black fruits and high levels of acid; monster by name, but not so monstrous to drink.
