Cracka Review

Could Larry Cherubino be some kind of magician of the vines? Never has one man made so many wines that have been so awarded. Last year James Halliday voted his efforts with ‘Winery of the Year’ in his annual Wine Companion. The Yard is a celebration of single sites in WA and this blend typifies the Margaret River perfectly. It shows aromas of minerals and pea pods as well as a core of citrus. There’s a lovely texture, with crunchy acids and piercing intensity.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine has aromas and flavours in the savoury spectrum. Straw, citrus and freshly picked peas with underlying gentle grassiness. There is a textural component to the wine which is in part due to the partial oak fermentation which softens the intensity on the palate and also adds an extra layer of complexity. With a clean zippy acid structure, defined backbone and summery freshness this wine is easily enjoyed with or without food. An adult expression of this classic Margaret River blend. Drink now or allow flavours to develop over the next 2-3 years.

An elegant bouquet of straw and citrus fruit; the palate has tropical fruit coming to the fore backed by crisp acidity; good texture on the finish.

Very tight and controlled, the flavours still largely locked up but all in a herbaceous spectrum with some barrel ferment oak in the background; hard to judge so early (January '08).
