Le Chat Noir Organic Syrah

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Check this gorgeous wine out from the South of France. It is has all of Shiraz's richness and density of fruit with blackberry, plum and mulberry fruit. But then top that with some savoury French spice and you've got a seriously good wine made for drinking pleasure.

Winemaker's Notes

Reviews and Accolades

Minervois is an appellation that sits in the western part of the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region of southern France. This is a blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre sourced from bush vines aged between 79 and 82 years of age. A no-brainer at the price. Not much above medium-bodied with personality and well matched flavours. Dark cherries, redcurrants, rocks, pan juices and smoke. Ironstone and pepper too. Loose knit tannin, settled acidity. Supple through the front and mid-palate, finishing with pepper spice. Highly recommended.

The Wine Front (2011 Vintage) says
From 79 and 82 year old bush vines in the “Les Causses” area of Minervois. Pretty, but dramatic scenery, where gnarled old vines crouch low on the limestone. 10% Mourvedre and 40% new oak are some other numbers. Raspberry rope, black cherry, pepper, aromatic mountain herbs and a little cedar and vanilla from oak. Medium bodied with that dry, almost ashen, herbal flavour you often get from this region, buried in sweet mixed berry fruit. Acidity is fresh but unforced and there’s a gentle snag of chalky open weave tannin. Finishes spicy/earthy/fruit sweet all at once. Lovely to drink. Interesting too. 92 Points.
