Les Courtilles Chateauneuf du Pape

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

From one of France's most famous villages comes this cracking little number at a seriously good price. It is a classic Chateauneuf with baked earth, red fruits and gentle spice in a voluptuous and moreish package. The kind of wine for which two glasses will not be enough.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2010 vintage was outstanding in the Southern Rhone. The harvest was two weeks late but of incredible quality – extremely intense due to the low yields, but with a freshness and focus superior to the storied 2009 & 2007 vintages.

Appearance: Dark red in colour.

Nose: A vibrant and fruit-driven nose of blackberries , sweet spice and exotic herbs.

Palate: The palate is fresh and generous with a depth of dark berried fruit given definition by graphite tannins and bright acidity.

Cellaring: Until 2028.

Alcohol: 15.0%

Grape Variety: 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, 5% Cinsault.

Reviews and Accolades

Raspberry coulis and kirsch, licorice and baking spice. It’s tarry, rich and warm but there aren’t any overt heat spikes. Lavender wafts from the glass and earthy, meaty qualities provide a counterpoint to the dense, ripe profile. A powerful, velvety wine with black fruit skulking beneath the surface. Ultimately the nutty and almost intricate tannin is crucial to its success…and I’m happy to say it’s up to the task. 92 Very Good.
