Lindemans Coonawarra Trio Limestone Ridge Shiraz Cabernet

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The Lindeman's Coonawarra Limestone Ridge Vineyard Shiraz Cabernet is sourced from over 35 years old vines in the acclaimed 24 hectare Limestone Ridge Vineyard, named because it is located directly above a ridge of limestone which forms the 'backbone' of Coonawarra's famous Terra Rossa strip. Whilst the ridge is relatively small it means that the soil depth is particularly shallow over the limestone base and results in an exceptionally well-drained, low yielding vineyard.

Appearance: Vibrant deep purple.

Nose: Blackberry and mulberry fruit, black pepper, liquorice, chocolate and vanillin oak.

Palate: Full bodied, rich dark berry fruit, rich chocolate and liquorice, fine structured tannins. A wine of volume and intensity.

Lindemans Coonawarra Trio Limestone Ridge Shiraz Cabernet

Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2010 Vintage) says
The most supple and obvious of the Lindemans 2010 trio, this is a primary and expressive style of violet fragrance and a core of slick, ripe berry compote fruit in a sea of milk chocolate oak.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Medium to full red-purple; a particularly supple and smooth Limestone Ridge with blackberry, mulberry and blackcurrant in a smooth embrace, hints of Coonawarra earth and mint validating the union, oak handling particularly good.

Deep purple-crimson; a particularly luscious and rich Limestone Ridge, flush with blackcurrant, blackberry and licorice fruit, the full-bodied palate weaving positive oak and ripe tannins into its excellent texture.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Holding hue well, still bright and clear crimson; unequivocally good wine, with blackberry and blackcurrant fruit interwoven with fine but persistent tannins and positive American oak. Gold medals at Adelaide Wine Show '08 and Queensland Wine Show.

Complex mulberry and raspberry aromas, medium-bodied, moderate velvety tannins, delicate underlying acidity.

Continues the return to form for the Lindemans stable; solid, quite chunky, fruit, with pleasant savoury tannins.

Jeremy Oliver (2005 Vintage) says
Sweet aromas of cassis, raspberries, redcurrants and dark plums with spicy, meaty undertones of black pepper and iodide are somewhat subdued beneath dark chocolate vanilla/cedar oak. Underpinned by firm, drying tannins, its chocolatey palate of plums and berries offers a pleasing length of fruit, finishing with lingering meaty and mulberry like nuances. It's fractionally over-ripened, over-oaked and a little out of balance, and while it should improve with time in the bottle, it is no classic Limestone Ridge.

Complex mulberry and raspberry aromas, surprisingly velvety and full tannins, medium-bodied, delicate underlying acidity.

This has long been a favourite of the corporate set, though in recent years the production volume has simply been too high. They're reining it back, and the quality is up. 2005 RELEASE Mighty good. Big bloom of fruity fragrance and flavour. Generous doses of raspberry, plums and blackcurrant, the finish then awash with chalky, lengthy tannin. Made from vines planted in 1967, and blessed with attractive overtones of milk chocolate and violets. This is a terrific return to the quality arena. Only 12.9 per cent alcohol! DRINK 2014-2025.

This has long been a favourite of the corporate set, though in recent years the production volume has simply been too high. They're reining it back, and the quality is up. 2004 RELEASE Lots of dark berry and cassis-like smells burst from the glass. The palate is then sturdy, plummy, toasty and simple in its curranty fruit profile. Seventy per cent shiraz, thirty per cent cabernet. Nice balance of structure, fruit flavour and oak. DRINK 2014-2020.

Medium- to full red-purple; a rich and substantial palate with blackberry, blackcurrant and mulberry; the tannins, oak and fruit seamlessly interwoven.

Jeremy Oliver (2001 Vintage) says
Spicy, slightly meaty and leathery, this brightly flavoured and dark-fruited shiraz reveals a hint of herbaceousness. Closed and brooding, its violet like perfume of cassis, dark plums and mulberries reveals smoky undertones of cedar/mocha oak and capsicum. Its deep, dark flavours of plums, cassis and mulberries knit tightly with pencil shavings-like cedar/chocolate oak, before a persistent savoury finish of lingering mineral and meaty qualities.

Attractive blackberry and blackcurrant; good texture and balance; combines richness and elegance.

James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; a complex mix of dark berry fruit and soft oak aromas leads into a palate with plenty of depth, but which seems to be lacking freshness. The track record of this wine strongly suggests that it may simply be going through an ugly phase of its development.
Australian Wine Companion 2004 2003

James Halliday (1994 Vintage) says
Medium to full red-purple; a powerful, concentrated bouquet with excellent fruit and oak balance and integration; the palate is well balanced and composed, with briar, chocolate and red berry fruit together with generous vanilla oak, finishing with moderate tannins. A typical '94 vintage, not fleshy, but powerful. A prolific gold medal winner in shows.
