Cracka Review

Semillon and sav blanc combine in this lower alcohol (8.5%), slightly off-dry style of white to show smells of passionfruit, lychees and lemons on the nose, which then punch through on the lighter-bodied palate. It's all wrapped up in bright, crisp acidity and a bright fruity finish that will slip down easy with a slight chill.

Winemaker's Notes

In making LINDEMANS Early Harvest, the winemaking team aims to create wines that are lighter in alcohol and calories, while maintaining varietal flavour.

Most white wines produced in Australia sit at 12%-14% alcohol volume and red wines at 13-15% alcohol volume. However the LINDEMANS Early Harvest range sits between 7.5 and 9.0% alcohol volume.

LINDEMANS Chief Winemaker Wayne Falkenberg says the drinking experience with Early Harvest is still as enjoyable as any other LINDEMANS wine and responds directly to consumers looking for lighter lifestyle alternatives.

LINDEMANS Early Harvest wines are created from selected parcels of flavour ripe grapes harvested from early ripening regions in South Eastern Australia. This fruit, coupled with careful winemaking, creates a uniquely refreshing wine which is at least 25% lighter in alcohol.

Appearance: Pale straw with lime edges.

Nose: The nose is bright and vibrant with passionfruit and green melon aromas and subtle citrus blossom.

Palate: The fresh fruit flavours of Semillon and cut grass and lychee flavours of Sauvignon Blanc are balanced by the crisp dry finish, providing an easy drinking style of wine.

Cellaring: This wine is best enjoyed when young and fresh.

Alcohol: 8.5%

Lindemans Early Harvest Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
The early picking has worked well; the suite of aromas and flavours are delicate, all varietal (grass, herb, citrus, tropical) and are sufficiently intense to hold interest in a food context.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
A brave attempt, though the low alcohol strips the flavour; an honorary 87 points for the sake of interest, and a 30% reduction in calories.
