Lindemans Reserve Merlot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

From an oustanding vintage on the Limestone Coast in South Ozstralia comes this medium-bodied, plushly fruited merlot that rates highly on the drinkability scale - plus it's awesome value! Aromas of ripe dark plums and blackberries rise out of the glass and leap onto the palate, which is soft. smooth and spicy, with gentle tannins, and a succulent, sweet fruit finish. Perfect with the mid-week pasta.

Winemaker's Notes

Grapes for the LINDEMANS Reserve Limestone Coast Merlot are picked while the temperatures are cool, resulting in fruit with good varietal definition and balanced flavors. Aging select lots of this wine in American oak adds complexity to the blend, while maintaining its fresh fruit focus.

The LINDEMANS Reserve Limestone Coast Merlot begins with cherry and plum fruit aromas, with hints of mint. This medium bodied wine has sweet, dark berry fruit flavors with fine powdery tannins, balanced by spicy oak.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
The wine does have good texture and structure, with attractive savoury tannins, although the oak is not convincing.

This Limestone Coast varietal is an excellent example of quaffing merlot: it's soft, round and very easy to drink, with ripe, sweet blackberry and dark plum flavours, fleshy texture and substantial though balanced tannins, so it's nicely approachable.

Sourced from Padthaway, this has pleasant concentrated plummy flavours.

Quite attractive, spicy and youthful, with soft berry fruit - but not all that much better than the cheaper Bin 40.

Experienced Coonawarra winemaker, Greg Clayfield, has utilised Padthaway fruit to produce an approachable, smoothly textured merlot that has ripe red berry, plum and chocolate flavours and a firm but harmonious finish.
