Long Gully Estate Yarra Valley Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Made with the Penfolds 58 clone chardonnay, one of the best going in mature vines; barrel-fermented in French hogsheads and puncheons (18% new) and stirred fortnightly for five months. The bouquet is fragrant, but it is the exceptional length of the palate that immediately grabs hold of you; the flavours open with white and yellow peach, with a hint of cream, then break out into intense grapefruit notes. The Yarra Valley produced many outstanding chardonnays in '11.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Light straw-green; a lively, fresh wine underlining the schizophrenic nature of the vintage, very good for chardonnay, and very poor for reds; the decision to only use 10% new French oak was astute, for the end result is an elegant expression of perfectly ripened Yarra chardonnay.
