Lowe Wines Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Mudgee’s claim to making great reds is apparent here as David Lowe is more than adept at turning his hand at Shiraz thanks to a career that begun in the Hunter. Lowe uses organic viticulture to tease the best out of the Shiraz grapes on his property in Mudgee that were converted to organics in 2003. Blueberry and notes of licorice tease the nose before a fine palate of black fruits and fine tannins. Plenty of life ahead here but will reward anyone who pairs it with a charred rib eye steak.

Winemaker's Notes

Organic to its boot straps, another strong slow ageing follow on to the last 5 Shiraz releases. 2006 provided deep colour, soft lingering tannins and latency. We never heavily oak these wines storing in large oak to add layers not to coat them with wood. Now after 4 years the wine is still a baby with hints of licquorice and vanillan, and no sign of any aged character.

It is no tragedy to drink this as a young wine but be assured from 35 years wine making experience it will last and improve for at least a further 10 years. It will taste softer and taste better if you cellar it.

Certified Organic.
