Magpie Estate The Sack Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Ripe, plush smells of dark cherries and plums decorate the nose, along with whiffs of toasted cedar and liquorice. The palate is fuller-bodied and sweetly-fruited, with rich plummy flavours, surprisingly friendly tannins, and a spiced fruit finish that hangs around. Roast red meats are the go with this one!

Winemaker's Notes

Reviews and Accolades

It’s a generous, fleshy, fruit-forward shiraz – ready for drinking now. Obviously it doesn’t yet have developed flavours but it’s soft in the mouth already and open and buoyant from the moment you twist the cap. Plums, spice, dark cherries and minerally, ferrous notes. Complex-enough for sure.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Good colour; has an abundance of complex black fruits, with licorice, spice and charcuterie add-ons flowing through the bouquet and medium-bodied palate; the tannins and oak also play their part in shaping a high-quality wine.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Deep colour; a ripe and heady combination of red and black fruit, licorice, bitter chocolate and spicy oak; the palate is full-throttled and generous, finishing with a charry toast note.

Clean and lively, with dark fruit on offer; a little fruitcake on the mid-palate carried through to the finish.

A complex medium-bodied mix of spice, earth and vanilla over black fruits; light, supple tannins.
