Man O' War Merlot Malbec
Merlot is the ultimate blending variety, as a single varietal it gets a few snide comments yet the good people of Bordeaux know that the fruit forward generosity of this grape is essential to the structure of many of the best reds. This wine wisely uses Merlot as the dominant blend and then fills it out with Malbec to devastating effect. It shows dark berry fruits and a savoury perfume with poised tannins and balanced acids. A wonderful example of how wise blending can make a wine of complexity and depth.
The wine is deep garnet-purple in colour with lifted aromas of crushed red berries and darker cassis with hints of fl oral perfume, clove, Mediterranean herbs and cedar. The palate is vibrant with good concentration and supple approachable tannins. The 2010 Man O’ War Merlot Malbec exudes ripe red berry fruits, a hint of spice and a long persistent finish that is engaging in its youth but will reward careful cellaring for 3-5 years.
