Martinborough Vineyard Marie Zelie Pinot Noir

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2006 Vintage) says
Only 984 bottles exist of the hedonistic 2006 vintage, the first since the arrestingly rich 2003. From vines up to 26 years old (in 2006), it is a selection of the four best barrels, which were blended in January 2007, returned to older oak casks for a further eight months' aging, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. A very powerful wine, it is also full of charm, with deep colour and great ripeness and richness. Notably concentrated, with an array of plum, strawberry, liquorice and nut flavours, it is silky-textured, inviting current drinking, but still fresh and lively, with obvious potential. (The next vintage of Marie Zelie is 2008.)

Michael Cooper (2003 Vintage) says
The gorgeous 2003 vintage was released in late 2006. A tiny selection of three barrels (700 bottles), it was based on vines now 17 to 28 years old, matured in all-new French oak for 18 months, and bottled without fining or filtration. Full and moderately youthful in colour, it is very finely scented, with silky, highly complex flavours, already highly seductive. It's an arrestingly rich wine (as it should be, given the price), for drinking now onwards. (There is no 2004 or 2005, but the 2006 vintage will be launched in late 2009.)
