This was the finest pinot in the room at the recent New Zealand tasting (and I gave all ninety a thorough work-out!). A particularly strong vintage for one of the star performing estates of the region, producing a particularly refined wine of brilliant complexity, sniper-like focus, seamless line and sensational length. It swirls with black plums, black cherries, pepper, fennel and mixed spice, with an undercurrent of tannins that are both fine and textural, yet firm and self-assured.

Reasonably dense, though not a blockbuster style, with layers of red fruits and savoury characters. Wild herb, spice and a pleasing toasty, earthy note. Smooth-textured wine with power.

Medium red-purple; the bouquet is exemplary, with cherry and plum fruit complexed and cut by some foresty/stemmy characters. The palate, likewise, has a mix of cherry plum fruit and more foresty/stemmy characters giving grip, texture and length.
