Michael Cooper (1999 Vintage) says
The 1996 and 1997 vintages of Matua Valley's spice wine were grown in Hawke's Bay, but the 1998 is a stylish blend of Hawke's Bay and Marlborough fruit, and the 1999 vintage is all-Marl borough. Tasted in its infancy, the 1999 is a pale, weighty wine with good depth of appley, spicy flavours in a medium-dry, rounded style.
