Michael Cooper (1995 Vintage) says
Launched from the 1993 vintage, this budget-priced wine replaced Matua Valley's Claret. The '95, grown in Auckland, Hawke's Bay and Marlborough, draws together Pinot Noir (55 per cent) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40 per cent) in the same bottle - a rare blend which would make Frenchmen throw up their wine goblets In horror. Pinotage makes up the balance. A quarter of the blend was oak-aged for six months. It's berryish, lively and smooth, but a bit green, lacking ripeness and depth.
