Matua Valley Res. Sauvignon Blanc

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (1996 Vintage) says
One of the country's top oak-aged Sauvignon s, estate-grown at Waimauku. The '95 has a powerful surge of ripely herbal flavour, oak complexity and a long, subtle, creamy-rich finish. The 1996 vintage was barrel-fermented, lees-aged for eight months and given a full, softening malolactic fermentation. Full-bodied and ripe, it is quite oaky on the nose, with rich, persistent fruit flavours fleshed out with wood and "malo"-derived complexities. An excellent wine, but slightly less lush and concentrated than the greatest vintages.
