Maude Central Otago Pinot Gris

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The cool and dramatic backdrop of Central Otago is often translated into their wines. This wine was crafted using fruit from the Maude family vineyards in Wanaka and supplemented by grapes coming from the nearby Gibbston Valley. Varietal nose of crisp pear, citrus and apple that spread out on a lively palate that is packed with flavour and balanced by crisp acids. A wine for sipping, with a plate of seafood.

Winemaker's Notes

Pale straw in colour with aromas of ripe pear, quince and brioche. A rich textured palate where whole bunch pressing and partial barrel fermentation has created complexity.

WINESTATE (2011 Vintage) says
Complex citrus blossom and pear aromas and similar palate, with light creamy texture and balancing sweetness.
WINESTATE Volume 34 - Special Edition
Nick Stock (2011 Vintage) says
With some nice, precise fruit on the nose, this makes a more complex case than most, with the merest hints of barrel fermentation taming the fruit down; pears and quince and fresh, crusty bread are all here. The palate has built a smooth, supple texture, very even and composed - top value.

Michael Cooper (2011 Vintage) says
The 2011 vintage was grown at Pisa and Wanaka. Highly scented, it's a dryish style (4 grams/litre of residual sugar) with an invitingly floral, spicy bouquet and a full-bodied palate (14.5 per cent alcohol). Very fresh and vivacious, it has peach, lychee, pear and spice flavours, a touch of complexity from partial barrel fermentation, and excellent depth and harmony.

WINESTATE (2008 Vintage) says
Fresh and lively, with moderately ripe, appley, lemony flavours and a crisp, medium-dry finish. Some herbal notes add a touch of austerity.
