Mazzei Zisola Nero d'Avola IGT

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Nero 'Avola is a native Sicilian red grape, but here we have one grown in Tuscany. It's a more medium-bodied style that has a cheeky splash of shiraz in the mix, and shows aromas of dark cherries, hedgerow berries and dried herbs on the nose. The palate is quite elegant, with nice hits of spiced dark fruits, talcy tannins, and a juicy fruit finish. Pork or even tuna steaks will be great with this.

Winemaker's Notes

Today, after six centuries, the Mazzei family is still committed to the cultivation of the vine and the production of wine at Fonterutoli. It is a constant and innovative commitment that fully respects the terroir and is directed by Lapo Mazzei aided by his two sons Filipo and Francesco. Highly regarded Enologist, Carlo Ferrini has worked with the Mazzei family for years and supervises the cultivation of vines and the winemaking. Carlo was named Winemaker of the Year in the 2000 edition of the Gambero Rosso Guide “Vin d’Italia”.

Colour: Deep purplish, crimson red in colour.

Nose: The bouquet is dominated by notes of black, tarry fruit with spice.

Palate: Fleshy and juicy on the palate with fine tannins and good acid balance, Zisola Nero d’Avola presents itself as elegant and concentrated and with great depth.
