McGuigan Bin Series No. 9000 Hunter Valley Semillon

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Quartz-white; attractive young semillon with an abundance of juicy lemon and gooseberry fruit flavours more commonly found in sauvignon blanc, making it a drink now or later proposition. May enthrall with age, as some previous vintages have gone on to a prolific show career.

Tyson Stelzer (2011 Vintage) says
This is not the greatest Bin 9000 ever, nor is it particularly representative of 2011, but it’s popping up online for as little as $7.50, so if you’re looking for a quaffing semillon at the riper, sweeter end of the spectrum, it’s a bargain option. Rockmelon and paw paw fruit with a fresh, crisp finish.

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
This is no flash in the pan; despite the low price and low profile, this is a wine of distinction. Pale quartz; the bouquet is more expressive in its youth than many other semillons of the vintage, with lime/citrus blossom aromas; the palate is a vibrant replay of the bouquet, and history shows how well this chronically underrated wine develops over 5+ years in bottle.

Tyson Stelzer (2010 Vintage) says
Goodness gracious, one of the standouts of 2010 in the Hunter is also one of the cheapest. Don't be put off by the price, this is a serious bottle of semillon. Picked refreshingly low in alcohol for this vintage, it has lovely restraint, focus and definition of cool lemon juice acidity and lifted lemon and apple blossom.

Attractive, spicy, citrus fruit density with slight yeasty characters and good mid-palate length.

Floral, scented and fine; lemon blossom aromas; lovely mouthfeel and length. Yet another outstanding Bin 9000.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Still very youthful, but has fine lemon juice fruit with touches of herb; gives every indication of a prosperous future.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Very good wine; racy, stylish and refined fruit bolstered and lengthened by the lemony acidity so typical of the vintage.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
A mature bouquet, with straw and lemon the centrepiece; the palate is still fresh, but certainly at the peak of its powers; drink up and enjoy.

James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Yet another surprise (and top gold National Wine Show) from McGuigan; lively, fresh, lemony tang; great back palate and finish.

WINESTATE (2003 Vintage) says
Smells like fresh lemon curd with a delicate floral element. Rich and powerful palate with an abundance of sweet lemon flavours and lovely honeyed softness and intensity.

James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Pale straw-green; a classically clean, crisp and pure mineral and herb-accented bouquet is followed by a long, clean and pure palate, with subliminal residual sugar providing seductive balance; clever making.

James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says
Light to medium yellow-green; the clean bouquet is still fresh, with herb and grass aromatics; the palate provides more of the same, developing slowly but surely; it is still in the primary phase, but has considerable character. A re-release of the wine, which has won multiple wine show awards including a gold medal at the 2001 Canberra National Wine Show.

James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says
Deep, bright golden colour; aged varietal character is clear enough, but is drifting past its use-by date
