An uncompromisingly robust wine, with blackcurrant, black olive and earthy tannins intermingling; needs time.

Very concentrated blackcurrant fruit, with a hint of TCA-Iike aroma, presumably from the oak; a curate's egg, most extremely good.

Neil McGuigan has been five years at the helm of McGuigan Wines (based at Yaldara, near Lyndoch in the Barossa), and James Evers and the team are starting to see the fruit of McGuigan's long-term planning, with a raft of impressive reds. This single-vineyard Coonawarra cabernet is powerful, rich and concentrated, with blackcurrant and black olive flavours, plushy, silky smooth tannins and some complexity. A well-priced red with cellaring potential, but excellent now with food
