Nick Stock (2008 Vintage) says
Nice showcase of the hand-in-glove fit between region and variety here. This Heathcote sangiovese has bright red fruits and a nice layer of spice too. The palate's medium-weight and shows good reach and shape; there's a gently tarry edge too, with supple crunchy acid and a smooth, flavoursome finish.

Established in 1997 by Gary and Cynthia Harbor, Mclvor Estate Ð complete with vineyards, olive groves, fruit trees and cattle Ð is a little slice of Tuscany neatly plonked into the Heathcote Ranges. Among the vineyards is a smattering of alternative varieties Ð the sangiovese being a particular standout. Expect to find a dark and savory nose of sour cherry, fruitcake and sweet dry ground spices, while the palate is mouth-filling, nicely textured, dark and delicious. A wave of chewy tannins brings thing to a Close.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Light- to medium-bodied, but quite intense black cherry/ sour cherry/ briar flavours, and good length; has clear varietal character, but also stands on its own feet as a wine regardless of its variety.
