McLaren Vale III Associates The Descendant of Squid Ink

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Descendant of Squid Ink is the little bro to the Reserve and Giant Squid Ink wines. It still shows the deep, dark berries and plums of it's bigger siblings, but it also has some appealing red fruits, anise spice and less oak. The palate is more medium-bodied, with bright acidity, a plummy middle, more mellow tannins, and a smooth, toasted spice finish. It's made to drink over the next 3-5 years, and would be great with some lamb chops.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine inherits all the luxurious McLaren Vale Shiraz fruit characteristics that you have come to expect from Squid Ink, but without the influence of new American oak. With the emphasis being on fruit quality, we only selected fruit from our multi award winning Squid Ink block. As there is no dominate oak to hide behind you will find this wine to be full of fruit and spice flavours.

NV Sparkling Squid Ink Shiraz awarded the first ever Sparkling Red TROPHY in the 31 year history of the IWC International Wine Challenge in London 2014! James Halliday (2013 Vintage) says
Matured for 9 months in used American oak, the emphasis on the fruit; deeply coloured, it is on the upper side of medium-bodied, with a tapestry of black fruits, dark chocolate and plum cake; the balance is good, the future of the wine assured, so give it at least some of the time it deserves.
