McWilliam's Hanwood Estate Classic Muscat

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Who doesn’t love a cheeky little muscat with their choccy dessert, or coffee. We certainly do, and at this price who could refuse. It's a sweet, smooth, lip-licking number that shows aromas and flavours of spiced fruit cake and perfumed florals, all wrapped up in lush sweetness, and a vivid nutty finish. An excellent value fortified to keep on stand-by.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Lovely rich red/amber.

Nose: Floral rose petal notes and fruit characters.

Palate: Smooth and rich Frontignac characters and concentrated raisins, showing considerable lusciousness from both retained sweetness and fruit intensity.

Alcohol: 18.5%

This is up a touch on the previous two years and looks more elegant and finer, still with wonderful depth of raisins, toffee, treacle and honey before a fine, gentle finish.

Good, spicy, nutty, raisiny muscat, really quite satisfying, especially given the price. Not quite up to the Family Reserve muscat from McWilliams that's impressed us in previous years, but a good wine nonetheless.
