Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2006 Vintage) says
Cool, pristine Tassie fruit is the focus here, beautifully styled through careful handling in the winery. With no malolactic fermentation, it's all about zesty grapefruit and succulent white peach, supported by classy oak (new for fermentation, old for maturation) and a creamy texture from lees stirring. Long-term potential.

Jeremy Oliver (2006 Vintage) says
Smooth and luscious, this forward and rather viscous young chardonnay has a spicy bouquet of ripe melon, peach and nectarine backed by dusty vanilla oak and nuances of cloves and cinnamon. It's fluffy and generous, but lacks a little direction and movement on the palate, finishing slightly angular, with refreshing acids and a herbal aspect.

Given 1st class oak, the fruit acquires richness and complexity while still retaining the essential freshness and delicacy of Tasmanian chardonnay.

Smooth and supple citrus and nectarine fruit; good length and balance, the oak present but not oppressive

A restrained, smooth, lightly oaked and silky chardonnay whose delicate, dusty aromas of citrusy fruit, green olives and vanilla oak precede a long and almost slippery palate brightly flavoured with peachy, tropical fruit. It finishes savoury and nutty, with lingering fruit and clean acids.

Given first-class oak the fruit acquires richness and complexity while still retaining the essential freshness and delicacy of Tasmanian chardonnay.

Its nutty, quite oxidative and spicy aromas of dried flowers and delicate melon fruit are enhanced by hints of tobacco and creamy, leesy influences. Soft, smooth and elegant, it's clean, nutty and savoury, with a slightly reserved expression of fruit intensity and brightness.

Elegant, fine, subtle; restrained citrus and French oak; fractionally short.

Very light green-straw; a delicate, restrained bouquet with crisp melon and citrus supported by the faintest backdrop of oak, then a similarly delicate, balanced and restrained palate in slow-developing mode; will offer more in the years ahead.

Light but bright colour; it has fresh, fine, nectarine/stonefruit aromas, and an elegant palate, modulated and rounded. Fruit-driven, but with real finesse and length. Trophy Best White Wine, 2002 Tasmanian Wines Show.

James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says
Medium yellow-green; a complex bouquet with some malolactic fermentation influences and slightly malty/hessiany oak which likewise conies through on the palate. However, the wine has above-average richness and weight, with just a hint of mandarin botrytis which actually adds to the character, rather than detracting from it.
