Cracka Review

Appearance: Bright, deep ruby red with purple hues.

Nose: The wine reveals a wonderful array of black fruit and spice, with underlying licorice and toasted oak on the nose.

Palate: A full-bodied wine with red and black berry fruit characters and a succulent mid- palate. Excellent oak integration and ripe fruit are finely balanced with an elegant and persistent finish.

Millbrook Estate Shiraz Viognier

Expert Reviews

Ray Jordan (2009 Vintage) says
Clearly the best one of these Millbrook has released. The aromas are so beautiful with lifted spices and ginger from the viognier adding a subtle perfumed. The palate is powerfully shiraz driven with the viognier adding to the tannin structure. Gravelly loamy characters with dark ripe concentrated fruit. The supple tannins and gentle use of oak allow the fruit to full express itself.

Attractive crimson-purple; a fragrant bouquet that does show the impact of 7% viognier, then a juicy medium-bodied palate with an array of red and black cherry fruit, the tannins fine and soft, the length and balance good.

Immediate strikes with that dazzling mix of spices and dark fruits, with a delightful dab of perfumed violet. The palate is where this super wine really strikes home. It's rich and deeply intense yet the fine firmish tannins and fine grained oak work seamlessly into the lush fruit to provide a wonderful palate. Very long and already showing a degree of complexity.

Simple, cedary aromas and a complex, nicely-textured palate with sweet, leathery fruit.

Jeremy Oliver (2008 Vintage) says
Rather hard-edged, this rustic and meaty red has an assertively oaked bouquet of dark plums, blackberries and redcurrants lifted by a whiff of apricot blossom. It's long, firm and leathery, with modest fruit sweetness cloaked by drying American oak and framed by a slightly raw extract.

Brilliant wine from the first sniff to the final lingering persistent finish. Exotic spices perfumed tones on the nose with cedar cherry and light violet. The palate strikes a keen balance with an effortlessly long finish. Will continue to evolve with ageing.

Jeremy Oliver (2007 Vintage) says
Presently rather firm and raw-edged, this dark-fruited and meaty blend will settle into an interesting, complex and leathery, chocolatey dry red with time. While it's fragrant and spicy, with aromas of dark flowers, blackberries, briar and cassis, its palate shows little softening effect as yet from its viognier component. Give it time.

Strong purple-crimson; medium- to full-bodied with abundant black fruits, licorice, spice and tannins, the 5% viognier providing that special lift to the fruit profile; good length; will be long lived.

This wine is right on the money for this style. Strikes the balance between the plump fleshy opulence of some seriously good Shiraz and a touch of aromatic spice from the Viognier. Good texture and mouth feel in this very serious statement of the style.

WINESTATE (2005 Vintage) says
An intense wine loaded with very dark inky/briary fruit and spices on both nose and palate. Heaps of fine tannins and well-integrated oak. Needs food!

Deep and clear; flush with blackberry and plum fruit plus the viognier lift; does need time; fleshy, but still with a bite.

James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Elegant, scented bouquet; that unmistakable Viognier lift to red and black fruits; quite silky tannins.
