Cracka Review

Sourced from the renowned Abbey Vale vineyard this medium bodied and fragrant Margaret River Cabernet is built for the long haul - destined to be elegant and delicate forever more.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2011 growing season was superb for reds with concentrated flavours in the small berries. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec were sourced from the 20-year-old Abbey Vale vineyard near Dunsborough (Margaret River region). The fruit was destemmed to a small open fermenter and fermentation was 14 days with twice daily plunging of the skins. After pressing, the wine was lightly racked to 30% new and 70% one-year-old French oak for 14 months.

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Deep crimson, bright; the bouquet is lifted showing a prominent splash of mint, with redcurrant and cedar also on display; the medium-bodied palate is vibrant and fresh, again revealing eucalypt, fresh acidity and balanced tannins.

Powerful stewed plum fragrances lift out of the glass. Theres also some wood and some mint. Sweet and juicy in the mouth with great flavour length that lingers on. Quite a warm palate, with a good tannic grip.

Campbell Mattinson & Gary Walsh (2005 Vintage) says
The Clare Valley is famous for its classic cabernet-malbec blends, so it's great to see a n winery putting a hand on the reins. You'd pick it as a cabernet every time. It s dusty and briary and maybe a touch gamey, with curranty fruit flavours driving sturdily across your tongue. It's nicely complex, and the flavour lingers well after you've swallowed - a quality signpost. It was a good vintage and the wine shows it.

Medium-bodied; quite bright and fresh flavours, predominantly in the red fruit spectrum, but blackcurrant still to be felt in the background; overall elegance a plus.

Ray Jordan (2001 Vintage) says
You have quality cabernet here. It has power and concentration of fruit, plus a refinement and poise of the best cabernets. The blend with merlot adds some meaty mid-palate substance and the fruit is beautifully bound together with solid oak and tannin. It's a wine for the cellar over the next five to eight years
