Mills Reef Moffat Road Sauvignon Blanc

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2000 Vintage) says
The lower-tier Sauvignon Blanc in the Mills Reef range is grown in Hawke's Bay and made in an off-dry, easy-drinking style. The 1999 vintage has fresh, gently herbaceous aromas and a crisp, mouthfilling palate offering ripe melon/lime flavours, smoothed by a distinct hint of sweetness. The 2000 is full-bodied and crisp, with the restrained bouquet typical of Hawke's Bay Sauvignons but good vigour and freshness and plenty of gooseberryish, distinctly limey flavour.

The full, ripe-tasting '94 got this lower-tier, slightly sweet Hawke's Bay label off to a good start. The 1995 vintage is less ripe, greener and more austere. With its fullness of body and reasonable depth of moderately ripe, limey, green-edged flavours, crisp and dryish, the '96 is a solid wine, priced right. The '97 is a solid wine, ripe-tasting and rounded, offering smooth, dryish, easy drinking.
