Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2007 Vintage) says
Millton's flagship Chardonnay is based on mature vines in the steep, north-east-facing Naboth's Vineyard in the Poverty Bay foothills, planted in loams overlying sedimentary calcareous rock. Grown biodynamically and hand-harvested, it is fermented in mostly second-fill French oak barrels, and in most vintages it is not put through malolactic fermentation, 'to leave a pure, crisp mineral flavour'. The 2007 is a powerful, complex Gisborne wine from a top vintage. Still youthful, it is very sturdy, ripe and concentrated, with a lovely array of peachy, slightly nutty, creamy and honeyed flavours, good acid balance and excellent potential. Certified organic.
