Mission Estate Hawke's Bay Riesling

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2010 Vintage) says
The 2010 vintage is floral, fresh and lively, in a low-alcohol (10 per cent), distinctly medium style (19 grams/litre of residual sugar). Vibrantly fruity, with lemon and green-apple flavours, it shows good vigour and depth.

Michael Cooper (2009 Vintage) says
Mission Estate Winery's Rieslings offer good value. The 2008 has a slightly developed bouquet, with hints of toast and honey. Crisp and mouthfilling, it has good depth of slightly sweet, citrusy flavours. The lemon-scented 2009 vintage grown in Ohiti Road, is balanced for enjoyable summer sipping, with a splash of sweetness (11 grams/litre of residual sugar) amid its fresh, vibrant, lemony, appley flavours.

James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says
Light to medium yellow-green; a solid bouquet with lots of depth and character, although the fruit has a slightly muffled character. The no-holds-barred palate is rich and full of character, with a mix of lime and kerosene flavours. Silver medal winner Royal Easter Wine Show 2000.

Mission Estate Winery's bargain-priced Hawke's Bay Rieslings have made a big splash since the first, gold medal 1992 vintage. The slightly honied '95 is a beautifully perfumed, medium-sweet wine with plenty of lemony, limey, invigoratingly crisp flavour. The fresh, lemony scents of the 1996 vintage lead into a delicate, medium-dry palate, citrusy, limey and deftly balanced, with springy acidity and very good length.
