Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2011 Vintage) says
Typically good value. The 2011 vintage has musky, spicy, Turkish delight aromas. Mouth filling, with good weight, ripeness and richness, it's an opulent style with a sliver of sweetness (9 grams/litre of residual sugar) and a lingering finish.

Typically good value. The 2009 vintage is a fruity, medium-dry style (14 grams/litre of residual sugar), with ripe lychee and spice aromas and flavours, gentle acidity and a slightly oily texture. It's enjoyable from the start.

Michael Cooper (2004 Vintage) says
Typically good value. The 2004 vintage was mostly (83 per cent) estate-grown at Taradale, harvested at 23.6 brix, fermented to full dryness and matured for three months on its yeast lees in tanks. Light gold, with a gingery bouquet, it is full-bodied (14 per cent alcohol) and fleshy, with the slight bitterness often seen in Gewurztraminer, but strong, spicy, slightly honeyed flavours.

Michael Cooper (2002 Vintage) says
Typically an easy-drinking style, fruity, fresh and flavoursome. The 2002 vintage , grown at Greenmeadows (Taradale) and Bay View, is a slightly sweet style with ripe citrusy, spicy flavours, a slightly oily texture, good depth and a rounded finish.
Buyer's Guide to New Zealand Wines
Michael Cooper (1998 Vintage) says
In the past an easy-drinking style, fruity, citrusy, fresh and crisp, the quality of this wine took a big leap in 1998 Based on Greenmeadows fruit, harvested at over 24 brix and stop-fermented at 15 grams per litre of residual sugar (making it a medium style), it's a mouthfilling (14 per cent alcohol) wine with lovely, ripe, delicate fruit flavours of citrus fruits and spice. It could easily have been sold under the Mission Estate Winery's Reserve label. The 1999 vintage ($18) costs $5 more than the 1998.
