Cracka Review

Apart from the fortifieds, shiraz is the other hero for Rutherglen. In true Rutherglen fashion, this is a fulsome, lush, softer style of shiraz that shows lots of ripe dark berries and plums on the nose, with a decent hit of pepper spice on the nose, whilst the palate is smooth and plush, with ultra-spicy flavours on the palate, smooth tannins, and a rich finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Bright crimson red with slight purple hues.

Nose: Complex and inviting aromas of rich pepper spice oak, ripe intense plum and blackberries.

Palate: This medium to full-bodied wine shows ripe full flavors of blackberries and plums complemented by rounded, well-balanced tannins and an integrated lingering spice oak finish.

Alcohol: 14.5%

A full flavoured Shiraz that is true to the Morris style and would be a perfect companion for slow cooked beef brisket, roast lamb, game dishes or wood-fired pizza.

Jeremy Oliver (2010 Vintage) says
A traditional earthy, gamey bouquet of raisins, currants, dark plums and blackberries with a hint of bitumen and clove precedes a sumptuous, meaty and rustic palate of genuine length, structure and personality. It's typical of tis region, finishes with brightness and freshness, and is likely to age well.

Jeremy Oliver (2006 Vintage) says
An exceptional regional shiraz whose deep, earthy and spicy bouquet of dark, meaty plums, prunes and blackberries is handsomely backed by fresh vanilla, cedar and chocolatey oak with a hint of game. Sumptuously concentrated, it's steeped in dark fruits, currants and raisins, finishing long, strong and vibrant, with a lingering core of flavour and firm, pliant tannins. For the long term.

Jeremy Oliver (2005 Vintage) says
Slightly cooked and meaty, with a raisined and currant-like presence behind its dark plum and berry flavours, this firm and drying shiraz delivers plenty of earthy, gamy and rustic personality. Backed by restrained chocolatey oak, its smooth, spicecake-like palate delivers a moderate length of flavour, but finishes slightly flat and cooked.

Jeremy Oliver (2004 Vintage) says
Ripe and meaty, this rich, juicy and substantial Rutherglen red delivers plenty of plump, juicy dark plum and berry flavour backed by gamey, currant and raisin-like notes, plus a hint of treacle. It's thick and succulent, leaving little to the imagination. Framed by firm, rather assertive tannins, it's a classic regional style that finishes with fresh acidity. Drink now or keep...

Jeremy Oliver (2002 Vintage) says
An honest, old-fashioned Rutherglen shiraz that combines typically spicy and leathery regional qualities with the elegance of a cooler vintage. Its meaty, chocolatey aromas of deep plummy and dark berry fruit reveal undertones of licorice and treacle, while its velvet-smooth, gamey and deeply ripened palate of plums and berries, prunes and currants is very true to type.

Jeremy Oliver (2001 Vintage) says
Earthy, typically regional Rutherglen shiraz of richness, smoothness and structure. Sweet, lightly gamey aromas of red berries and plums are concentrated and spicy, with spicy oaky undertones. A natural, uncomplicated countryside wine of pleasing weight, texture and harmony.
