The 1998 vintage was grown at the Riverview vineyard in Hawke's Bay and matured for 19 months in French oak casks. Medium-full in colour, with some development, it's a mouthfilling, savoury and rounded wine with a slight lack of fruit sweetness but good complexity. Drink now onwards. (Tasted from the barrel, the 1999 vintage looked superior - a big, powerful wine with supple, concentrated plum and dark cherry flavours.)

The 1996 vintage was grown at the Riverview vineyard in Hawke's Bay and matured for a year in French oak casks (40 per cent new). Ruby-hued, with a hint of maturity, it has classic farmyard/forest floor characters on the nose. Drinking well, it's soft and savoury, with lots of sweet, cherryish fruit and complex, mushroomy nuances.
