Michael Cooper (2000 Vintage) says
Promisingly full-coloured, the 2000 vintage is a blend of Merlot (principally) and Cabernet Sauvignon, grown in Hawke's Bay and matured for 14 months in French and American oak casks. Full of character, it's a rich, mouthfilling (14 per cent alcohol) and smooth wine with ripe berry and spice flavours and savoury, earthy touches adding complexity. Well balanced for current drinking

Slightly rustic and herbal, yet big and brambly, the 1998 vintage of this Hawke's Bay blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is full of character. French oak-aged for a year, it's richly coloured, with a slightly leafy bouquet. Mouthfilling and rounded, with loads of body and flavour, it's a gutsy, meaty wine that clearly reflects the relative coolness of Morton Estate's Mangatahi vineyards. The 1999 offers plenty of cassis/plum flavour, with a leafy-green edge.
