James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Slightly less bright colour, with more red; is very much the half-brother of the Merlot, with darker fruit flavours, yet with every bit as much breed; fruit, oak and tannins are all in tune.

Minty black currant aromas. Juicy ripe and very satisfying long ripe black currant, mulberry, casis, varietal flavours with a firm finish in 2013. Will age interestingly.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Bright, clear crimson-purple an elegant medium-bodied wine with fragrant red berry /cassis to the fore, blackcurrant back stage; the tannins are superfine but help build the long palate, assisted by balanced and integrated French Oak.

Jeremy Oliver (2009 Vintage) says
Dusty, herbal aromas of red and black berry fruits, slightly varnishy cedar/vanilla oak and a whiff of bell pepper precede a smooth and polished palate whose juicy expression of cassis, red berries, mulberries and dark cherries is underpinned by fine, firmish tannins. Initially a little angular, it takes time in the glass to reveal more fruit sweetness.

With a prim nod to Bordeaux less alcoholic than most Australian wines of their kind. Savoury some years most show fresh juicy small red fruits a fleshy medium body firm structured tannins elegant and perfectly balanced.

Jeremy Oliver (2008 Vintage) says
Delightfully elegant and complete, this smooth, deeply fruited and polished young blend has a vibrant scent of fresh violets, cassis, mulberries, dark cherries tightly knit with lightly toasty cedar/vanilla oak. Long and creamy, its luscious, evenly ripened palate of dark, juicy fruit and cedar/chocolate oak culminates in a finish of genuine balance and charm.

Nick Stock (2007 Vintage) says
A single-vineyard take on the WA claret-style red, this really makes a statement about the ripeness that was achieved in vintage 2007. Swish, creamy oak glosses across rich dark berries, with some roasted coffee and black fruits playing either side. Super-smooth palate from the very outset with silken tannins, terrific shape and balance. Cedary oak chimes in late and there's regional gravel here too. Impressive poise, balance and freshness.

Stylistically similar to the Merlot, but medium-bodied rather than light- to medium-bodied, and with blackcurrant to the fore, the tannins providing more structure. Nonetheless, retains the elegance and effortless length of the Merlot.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Light colour and light- to medium-bodied; strongly savoury notes and touches of herb and olive; in vineyard style, but I prefer the Merlot (contrary to Keith Mugford).

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Medium-bodied; a nice tension between sweet redcurrant and more savoury blackcurrant notes; fine, ripe tannins; good oak handling.

Fragrant small red fruits, leaf and mint aromas leading into a palate which changes gear dramatically, with tannins running right through; needs time to come together.

James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Elegant, with great structure and mouthfeel; blackcurrant, cedar and spice; lovely tannins on the finish.
