James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
As always, 100% barrel-fermented, the percentage of new oak kept to minimum to gain texture, but not diminish the varietal aromas and flavours that range from lemon to orange zest, with just a touch of spice on the finish.

The cool 2011 season has done wonderful things for Mount Horrocks Semillon, making for an impressively chiselled style. Semillon doesn't always respond well to full barrel fermentation, but here the buttered toast and roast nut characters imparted serve to balance the taut, primary, zesty lemon drive of this high-tensile season, pulling into a honed finish of chalky mineral structure and considerable persistence. $23 direct.

A cult wine due to its use of subtle vanilla, caramel high quality French oak to complex and enhance the lanolin baby blanket like semillon varietal aromas. Exquisite balance of fruit and oak aromas leads to a deep bold juicy palate with length and depth of complex subtle oak with semillon citrus and a layered finish.

Exceptional winemaking skills are revealed in a truly lovely balance and harmony in this wine. Lemony freshly cut pineapple-like semillon gets a dusting of oak and keeps its acidity and balance building into a complex textural style with the oak adding a savoury edge.

Bright straw-green; a 100% barrel-fermented wine that breaks all the rules: has more freshness than any other Clare Valley semillon, and the impact of the barrel fermentation is secondary to the fruit expression; has excellent length, too.

In a 100% barrel ferment style unique to the Clare Valley; Mitchell and Tim Adams other notable makers; the strength of the lemony citrus fruit absorbs the impact of the oak; complex food style; good length and balance.

The 100% barrel fermentation impact is certainly there, but it is well integrated with and does not subjugate the lemon, honey and toast fruit. A specific style.
