Mount Langi Ghiran Cliff Edge Sparkling Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Why don’t we drink more of this great Australian style – Sparkling Shiraz. For the life of me I don’t know why because it is so damn fine. This is the best style too – spicy dark fruit, not a hint of jaminess, fairly dry too finishing with soft silky tannins. They say turkey is the right match for this stuff but any red meat on the pink side or even some pork neck is a dream with a glass or two of this sparkling Shiraz.

Winemaker's Notes

Colour: Dense dark purple, fine mousse

Nose: Dark berry fruits with leather and earth characters

Palate: Fine bead with gentle tannic weight and berry fruit sweetness coupled with mixed spice

Expert Reviews

James Halliday says
Deep colour; serious bottle-fermented style with some lees age; is neither oaky nor sweet, thanks to minimal phenolics; good length and finish. Cellaring will be rewarded.

Campbell Mattinson & Gary Walsh says
The Grampians region has a fantastic reputation when it comes to sparkling reds - you could even argue that it was the birthplace of the style. Great to see Langi getting in on the act, though other than through the cellar door this may be hard to find. It was aged for only two years on lees prior to release, a relatively short time for this wine style and region. The result, though, is a wine with excellent freshness. It's full of berried flavour, controlled sweetness, nuances of mint and cedar-like oak. There's even a spot of chocolatey flavour left in your mouth after you swallow and a juicy, semi-chocolatey finish. Remarkably good.
