Mount Langi Ghiran Riesling

Expert Reviews

Nick Stock (2011 Vintage) says
The top-tier Langi riesling has additional concentration, with the same crushed rocks, dried wild flowers and apple blossom on the nose. The palate delivers dry and tangy lemon and lime fruits in a sleek, contained style, and really long acid fires the finish deep; flinty and composed.

Quartz-green; a wine that achieves weight and complexity without losing finesse and length; lime and apple blossom aromas are replayed on the palate, which has great length and balance; drink whenever you feel like it.

Wrapped in an acidity that borders on extreme, this young, tightly focused, steely and exceptionally austere riesling commands time in the bottle. Scented with white flowers, lime juice, apple and pear with undertones of minerals and chalk, it's taut and bracing. Long and pristine, with laser-like focus, it finishes with a briny minerality. Give it a decade, and your palate will thank you. And so will your teeth.

A wolf in sheep's clothing: the alcohol prepares you for a Mosel Kabinett style with significant fruit sweetness; in fact it is barely off-dry driven by its crystalline acidity on a feather-light palate, lime making a curtain call at the end.

It's no ordinary world at Duran Ghiran. The wild boys are calling and they're stirring solids in the riesling ferment for texture and spicy complexity. Yeah, it's the finest hour!

Distinctly Germanic in style, this earthy, rather funky riesling has a dusty, spicy and lightly floral scent of peachy and citrusy fruit with smoky, mineral and faintly cheesy undertones. Made in a marginally sweet trocken style, it's long and textured, with fresh stonefruit, pear and tropical flavours supported by a very fine chalkiness, finishing in shapely fashion with lemony acids.

Distinctly finer and more intense than the basic Cliff Edge; bright citrus flavours build progressively through the long palate and finish.

Jeremy Oliver (2005 Vintage) says
Open and generous, this rather modern and distinctly Germanic riesling has a floral, honeysuckle-like fragrance whose delicate perfume of citrus and pear precede a smooth, generous and supple palate that culminates in a clean, refreshing halbtrocken-like finish. It ends with lingering fresh flavours of apple and pear backed by a slightly oxidative complexity.

Herb, spice and mineral aromas; lively and fresh; quite intense apple and lime fruit; impressive style. Best for years.

Jeremy Oliver (2003 Vintage) says
Germanic, cooler climate expression of perfumed, fragrant riesling with fresh aromas of lime juice, pear and apple over suggestions of stonefruit and spice. Long and smooth, silky and seamless, its sculpted palate of crisply defined pear, apple and peach flavours culminates in a refreshing citrusy finish.
