Mount Majura Shiraz

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Bright, clear crimson-purple; attension to detail in the winery has paid dividends, with a complex array of black cherry/blackberry fruit, spices to burn, ripe tannins and good oak integration; the overall mouthfell of the medium-bodied palates is excellent.

Pepper, cardamon pod spice with amazing aromaticity and subtle red fruit. Medium full bodied with bold ripe fruit textures and solid middle palate texture and the pepper pot of spices, the finish is firm. Good food wine on release.

Mount Majura shiraz can be very good though the high alcohol reading here seems at odds with the cool-climate style of previous releases. Tastes natural. And we have to note that as we were tasting it, we didn't notice the alcohol too much. It tastes of nuts, yeast, pepper, chocolate cake and ripe, dark berries. It's gloriously slippery and low in acid with spice and plenty of length. A somewhat curious wine, but engaging.

Dark and savoury fruit bouquet, with a lift of fragrant floral character; spicy, medium-bodied and showing plenty of fine-grained tannins on the long and silky finish.

Nick Stock (2006 Vintage) says
Delicious elegant shiraz and superb value. Super-fine, fragrant aromas, peppery and spicy Canberra District characters, bright dark berries and plums; complex and very much in the mod-Oz cool style. Plenty of supple fruit and sweet spice on the palate, the oak adds some sweetness and gentle toast, dried plums and dark chocolate to close.

Campbell Mattinson (2006 Vintage) says
Mount Majura has produced a number of interesting wines over the past five years, the shiraz invariably the stand-out. I don't like all the wines, but when I do like one, it is invariably outstanding value. 2006 RELEASE If you've ever enjoyed a glass of Craiglee shiraz - or indeed a wine from the heart of France's Rhone Valley - you should hunt out this wine. It crackles with dark, peppery spice, its cushion of plums and dark cherries flavours both succulent and pure, but second in appeal to the minerally, spicy crackle of it. I love this wine's dry, chocolaty tannins too - indeed, I love this wine, DRINK 2009-2015.
