Neil McGuigan First Estate Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

Max Allen & Peter Forrestal (2000 Vintage) says
This Cellarmasters' release from Neil McGuigan at Briar Ridge is a clean, zingy commercial style with bright tropical fruit and pleasant flavour. The name is a pretty far-fetched attempt to draw a link with the first wine made in Australia (at Farm Cove in 1791) and the state (New South Wales) from which that came, also the source of this wine. This chardonnay is more successful.

Max Allen & Peter Forrestal (1999 Vintage) says
Neil McGuigan is one of the Hunter Valley's finest winemakers and has recently moved from the small Briar Ridge winery to head up the large Rothbury Estate. This wine was made for Cellarmasters using Hunter Valley and Mudgee fruit and while it reflects those two regions' rich, ripe fruit characters (tropical, pineappley flavours), it's deliciously crisp, fine and lively, with very subtle, unobtrusive oak flavours.
