Nevis Bluff Pinot Gris

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2003 Vintage) says
This Central Otago wine is always full of character. The 2003 vintage, grown at Gibbston and fermented in tanks to full dryness, is pale yellow, with a richly fragrant, slightly spicy and honeyed bouquet. Rich and rounded, it's a weighty, distinctly Alsace-style wine with good weight, concentration and texture, and loads of personality.

Michael Cooper (2002 Vintage) says
This Central Otago wine is always full of character. The richly flavoured 2002 vintage was grown at Nevis Bluff Estate and the neighbouring Pociecha vineyard at Gibbston. Fermented and lees-aged for nine months in tanks, it is fleshy and ripe, with concentrated stone-fruit flavours, hints of honey and spice and a deliciously soft, smooth finish.

Michael Cooper (2001 Vintage) says
This Central Otago wine is always impressive, and the 2000 vintage is a real conversation piece: fat, soft and honeyed, with lush, sweetish peach and mango flavours showing excellent concentration. Full of character, the 2001 was grown at Gibbston. Richly fragrant, with spice and honey characters, it's an intensely varietal wine, weighty and concentrated, with deep peach, pear and spice flavours, a slightly nutty complexity and a dry, powerful finish.

James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says
Pale straw-green; the bouquet is clean, with hints of citrus, pear, apple and mineral, all fleeting and delicate. The palate is lively, crisp and long, with that typical cut of Pinot Gris on the finish.

James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Very intense, fragrant, flowery passionfruit, spice and citrus aromas lead into a striking wine on the palate with similarly intense citrus, lime, herb and passionfruit flavours. Crisp acidity adds to the length of the finish.

Michael Cooper (1998 Vintage) says
There's a slight herbaceousness running through the 1998 vintage of this rare Central Otago wine, but it's impressively weighty and full-flavoured. A powerful wine with strong, peachy, nutty flavours, it's still youthful; open 2000 onwards.
