Ngatarawa Centennial Release Merlot Cabernet

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2000 Vintage) says
Bottled in 1000 individually numbered magnums and sold by mail order to celebrate the 2002 centenary of Corban family winemaking in New Zealand, the 2000 vintage () is a majestic red, blended from Merlot grown in the Ngatarawa district (60 per cent) and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Gimblett Gravels (40 per cent). Matured for 18 months in new and one-year-old American oak barriques, it is densely coloured and supple, with highly concentrated, brambly, plummy flavours, soft and rich. A sturdy, voluptuous red with some savoury, leathery characters developing, it is already delicious, but should be at its best from 2004 onwards.
