Cracka Review

The Nugans represent one of the success stories of Aussie wine, based in Griffith the family were in fruit growing and fruit juice export before the wine bug got to them. Today they are one of the biggest overseas distributors of wine. This wine is sourced from their King Valley vineyards where the cool climate ensures that white aromatic wine like this are fresh and full of flavour. It’s lifted with pear and apple aromas before delivering a punch of flavour that’s rich in pear, citrus and minerals. It’s nicely balanced with a clean, acid finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Pale straw in colour with a soft youthful green hue. Fresh, lifted aromas of pear, apple and nectarine compote. Generous palate of vibrant pear, apple and melon flavours supported by mineral and citrus, well balanced with a crisp lingering finish.

Nugan Estate King Valley Fasca's Lane Pinot Grigio

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
While the wine is at the upper end of the price scale for Pinot Grigio, it has more complexity on the bouquet and palate than most, with a ripe display of honeysuckle, citrus and pear, the finish artfully balanced.

Whether the grigio label (rather than gris) is appropriate is arguably beside the point; has plenty of pear and apple flavour, but does shorten on the finish.

Lemon and dried straw, with real life to the acidity; certainly grigio in style and with nice persistence and freshness.

Fresh tropical nose followed by an interesting fresh lemon/apple palate with a touch of honey running through.

Beats the odds with some distinctive spice and ripe pear aromas and flavours; finishes crisp and clean, with lemony acidity, and no reliance on residual sugar.

Nugan (I keep wanting to call them Nugan Hand, which probably makes no sense to anyone outside banking) has grown extremely quickly and done it well. They have a wide range of wines which go straight to the 'always reliable and good value' basket. This is a good fresh style, with minerals and pears. I say you should drink whatever you like with food, but you could do worse than a plate of fresh yabbies with this.

The Riverina's Nugan family source this marvellously fragrant white from the King Valley. It's riper than most, unrestrained, opulent and full-bodied with a hint of funky durian (Asia's most notorious tropical fruit).

Very much in grigio style; an appealing mix of mineral, citrus and green apple fruit. Good length.

Quite floral aromatics; lively, lemony acidity; just achieves ripeness.
