Cracka Review

Some of Australia’s most proud vinous history is encapsulated in these enduring fortifieds made by Rutherglen legends Campbells. Drinking rich Muscat like this can be quite an emotional experience, certainly it’s capable of changing the lives of those who get to share in it. Rich, raisiny and full of rancio characters this is what separates Cambells Muscat apart from other fortifieds. Amazing power and concentration on the persistent palate, with well-balanced acids on the finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep amber with tawny hues Rich fresh raisin fruit aromas with great depth and showing some rancio characters. Great power and intense fruit with balance and elegance. There is evidence of mellow oak with the luscious lingering finish.

Campbells Awards & Accolades

"The serious stuff: The second of four classifications of this region's world-famous fortified is arguably the best buying, with spirit-enforced richness and raisiny depths of flavour all singing gloriously. A lower-end Rutherglen ($18) is good, too.The fun stuff: Rich enough to drink with chocolate and other sweet-fruit deserts, pour also over ice cream for a taste sure to melt any heart. RATING: 4 StarsVALUE: SpecialVERDICT: Seductive" 4 Stars - Tony Love, The Herald Sun

"Rutherglen’s unique, luscious muscats come in four categories – Rutherglen, Classic, Grand and Rare – each representing a step up in age, richness and complexity. Campbell’s basic version, like raisened muscat grapes on a pogo stick, sells for $18.80. But it’s worth stepping up to “Classic”. It’s slightly darker in colour, slightly more olive green at the rim and notably more luscious. It also has the patina of age – a complex of aromas and flavours described by the Spanish as “rancio” – a sniff and a sip brings enlightenment." - Chris Shanahan,, Jul 2010.

TS: Layered with rich, luscious, primary fruits of oranges and raisins. Backed by the complexity of roast nuts, this is a concentrated wine with just the right acid profile to keep it bright." 93 Points -Wine 100, Jun 2010.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday says
Medium tawny, with the faintest hint of red; the bouquet is pure varietal muscat, ripe, raisiny and spicy; the potent palate has lots of character; the spirit comes through a little aggressively, but the muscat flavour is great.
