NV Champagne Georges Lacombe Grand Cuvee
This NV Champagne Georges Lacombe Grand Cuvee is a serious fizz. A blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, it includes 25% reserve wine in the blend and was aged for up to 36 months on lees. To give you a bit of perspective, that's almost twice the proportion of reserve wine of the $70 Laurent Perrier, and twice the lees ageing of Moet NV. In other words, it's high quality sparkling.
This has received some great critical acclaim too, with the French Guide Hachette de Vins noting that 'Balance is the key word to sum up this cuvée, which combines vivacity and richness, while delivering intense notes of white flowers, dried fruits and honey' and giving it two stars - equivalent to 'remarkable' on their scale.
We can see why this is highly lauded - it's a lovely fizz that combines freshness with complexity and a real length of flavour.
Alliance of elegance and complexity, the Grande Cuvée is the Champagne of all time, ideal as an aperitif and throughout the meal. At any time and for all...
Elaboration of the Cuvée: Pressing and winemaking grapes grown on the Montagne de Reims for the Pinot Noir (35%), the Marne Valley for Pinot Meunier (30%) and the Côte des Blancs for Chardonnay (35%).
• 75% wine of the year, 25% reserve wines
• Maturing 24 to 36 months in cellar
• Disgorging and dosing at 9 g/L
• Approximately 3 to 5 months before shipment.
Tasting Notes: Very beautiful yellow-golden tint. Buttered aromas and brioche with fruity apricot. Mouth balanced and weakly dosed. A generous Champagne, typical with its blend of 3 Champagne grape varieties!
Tasting Advice: Serve between 8 and 12 °C.
