Imported by De Bortoli, these wines represent real value in French Champagne. This dry style of Champers shows smells of white stone fruits, subtle red berries and brioche on the nose, whilst the palate is elegant and elevating, with lots of apples and yellow citrus amongst the bready notes, a fine bead, that salty texture, and a dry, emphatic finish. Sashimi kingfish would be the bomb with this!
In the 1950’s, Roger Fourny and his father Albert, developed a cuvée from the three
traditional Champagne varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and vinifi ed
the base wine in older oak casks. Not that common in Vertus at the time.
A few decades later, Roger’s sons, Emmanuel and Charles-Henry discovered some old
bottles in the dark cellars under the house. So enthused about the style and quality,
the boys have created their own version to celebrate their father’s passion and creativity.
The area of ‘Les Barilliers’ and ‘Les Justices’
give high quality grapes which are the
main terroirs of Cuvée ‘R’. Slopes face
South and South-East giving optimal
Vine Age: Average age of the vines is 60 years.
Varieties: Predominantly Chardonnay with a little Pinot
Noir and Pinot Meunier for complexity.
Ageing: On tirage for 4 years.
Tasting: Opulence, complexity, creaminess, textural.
