Oakridge’s second label is referred to as ‘Over the Shoulder’ to make sure you have another look at these every day drinking wines that scream bargain. In this blend, the complimentary cousins of Cabernet and Merlot bond harmoniously to produce vibrant aromas of cassis, cedar, violets and spice. The theme continues on the soft, supple palate with gentle tannins providing a balanced red that would be a cracking match for lamb.

A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 48% Merlot sourced from the Oakridge vineyard in Coldstream.

Winemaking
100% hand picked grapes, crafted using traditional methods.

Tasting Note
Brooding dark purple reds. Ripe blackcurrant and cassis, then cedar and dried tobacco leaf, blackberry and briar. A classic cabernet nose. The palate is rich and mouth filling with soft tannins that are even across the length of the palate. It is both fruit sweet and savoury at the same time, which brings refreshment and length. Silk cut.

An elegant little cabernet merlot cleverly disguised in a burgundy-shaped bottle, this 76% cabernet and 24% merlot blend shows good ripeness and plenty of mulberry, cassis, leaf and cedar aromas. The palate's a svelte, elegant yet ripely flavoured mouthful of berry fruits - slightly meaty too - and it's nicely balanced on fine, even tannins.

Quite a ripe, juicy purple fruit nose, very fresh and up-beat with plenty of blackcurrant and not a herb in sight. The palate's an approachable, softly tannined mouthful of blackcurrant flavour with gentle oak through the finish, fine tannins and a handy balance.

Oakridge is an excellent winery hamstrung by the fact that a crippled Evans and Tate has owned it for the past half dozen years. Hopefully its future is more prosperous; the wines deserve it. 2005 RELEASE 'Second' labels like this sometimes seem to treat consumers like idiots, but this label is not one of them. This is a really good wine. It's supple, fleshy, curranty and bold, its briary edges simply roping varietal integrity into the show. Structure, flavour and balance. A fine example of winemaking craft. DRINK 2008-2012.

A pretty, fruit-driven wine with some sappy and unfinished aspects. Its slightly minty, floral aromas of violets, cranberries, cassis, cherries and mulberries reveal oaky undertones of cedar and vanilla. Medium to full in weight, its fine and supple palate of slightly confection-like red berries, cherries and blackberries overlies a firmish, fine-grained backbone.

A generous and well-structured blend that makes up in intense dark berry and plum flavours what it might lack in complexity. Its dusty, earthy dark fruit aromas are supported by chocolate/cedar oak and undertones of dark olives, while its palate is firm, but fine and elegant. There's plenty of smoky mocha oak and just a hint of sappiness about its tannins.
